"Achieving gender equality and advancing women’s leadership are not just workplace issues. Women bring different points of view, ideas and experiences to the table, and it is essential to the strength and promise of our democracy that their voices be heard.
This premise — that equality is in sight, but we need to continue to push toward it -- is what Vision 2020 is built upon. Vision 2020 is a national project focused on advancing gender equality by energizing the dialogue about women and leadership. Its first event takes place on Oct. 21-22, 2010, when a congress of National Delegates, representing all 50 states and the District of Columbia, will meet at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia to discuss leadership and launch an action agenda to move America toward equality by 2020, the centennial celebration of the 19th Amendment.
Vision 2020 was created by Lynn Yeakel, director of the Institute for Women’s Health and Leadership at Drexel University College of Medicine, and she chairs this project with Rosemarie Greco, former CEO of CoreStates Bank, and current director of five publicly traded corporations. Catherine Ormerod, founding director of the Nonprofit Executive Leadership Institute at Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research, is the project director.
The National Delegates are 102 extraordinary women leaders from across the country. Visit Vision 2020’s website to meet the delegates. There are also 14 Visionary Delegates. Visionary Delegates will advise and assist the National Delegates by connecting them to organizations and resources that may aid in the implementation of the Declaration of Equality in their various states.
Vision 2020 is supported by National Advisors Doris Buffett, Johnetta B. Cole, Catherine DeAngelis, Janet Dillione, Lynn Laverty Elsenhans, Karen Mathis, Eileen C. McDonnell, Carolyn Lamm, Mary Patterson McPherson, Anna Quindlen, Cokie Roberts and Dawn Staley along with 33 allied organizations."
