Mariko Chang, author of Shortchanged: Why Women Have Less Wealth and What Can Be Done About It, spoke at the Clayman Institute for Gender Research at Stanford University about the "wealth gap" versus the "wage gap" for women. We are all aware that women are paid less than men, a woman today makes about 78 cents to a man's dollar for the same job. But the implications of this fact for the future are astounding. Being paid less along with holding jobs which traditionally don't offer extensive benefits and being charged higher interest rates on debt than men all contribute to the fact that women have only 36% of the wealth of a typical man. Mariko refers to this as the "wealth gap". I am amazed - 36%!! Listen to Mariko's explanation of the causes of the "wealth gap" and her suggestions of how we can fix it.You have to see this to believe it!
