27 Women were appointed to corporate Boards of Directors in October, 2011, down from the 31 reported last month, but significantly better than the 16 appointed in October of 2010. 4 more women appointed earlier in the year were discovered, bringing the total posted on NewsonWomen for October to 31. Major companies appointing women to boards seats this October included IBM, who appointed Ginny Rometty (pictured), CEO and a Member of their Board of Directors. Also appointing women were Goldman Sachs, Gannett, Newmont Mining, The Howard Hughes Corporation, VF Corp, Vangaurd Health Sysytems, and ITT. This month is another step towards a record year of appointments, and progress for women moving up the corporate ladder, thanks to the push from Europe where quotas are causing those companies to look to Amercia for qualified candidates. U.S. companies should now realize how lucky they are!
