NewsonWomen reports 30 Women were appointed Boards of Directors in July 2012, down from the high of 40 women appointed in June, 2012 but ahead of the 22 women appointed in July 2011, continuing our record breaking year of appointments of women to boards in 2012. Major companies appointing women to their Board of Directors included Yahoo!, which appointed Google executive Marissa Mayer (pictured) as President and Chief Executive Officer of their company and a Member of their Board of Directors. More technology companies are getting the message that women are essential to their business with Zynga, Informatica, Art.com, eHealth, and Mozido all appointing a woman to their boards, and other tech companies like Docusign, Qualcomm, Teledyne Technologies, and Lending Club expanding the number of women on their Boards. Women are also being recognized for their expertise like Harvard Environmental Law Professor Jody Freeman who was appointed to the ConnocoPhillips Board of Directors. Blackrock, Office Max, and TD Ameritrade also appointed women to their Boards.
