Women have finally been invited to join Augusta National Golf Club, specifically
Condoleezza Rice (pictured) and
Darla Moore. But it was
Ginni Rometty, who became CEO of IBM, a longtime sponsor of the Masters Tournament held at Augusta, who made the difference. IBM CEO's have been members of Augusta for years and it strikes me as virtually impossible that they would not invite her to join eventually. Time has passed Augusta by, and after forty years of women at Harvard, Princeton and Yale, and forty years of Title IX insuring women athletes receive equal funding for their sports, and with the U. S. Women's Olympic teams winning more gold medals than you can count, Augusta seems to me an out-of-date footnote. Women and their achievements will not be held back by Augusta, or by anybody else who discriminates.
